In Countries Around the World (including the U.S.):

Check Befrienders International list of helplines for many countries.

In the United States:

  • Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifelife at 1-800-273-TALK (8255)

  • Find a local crisis center on the National Hopeline Network's Referral System.

  • Call 911

  • Look in the Yellow Pages under crisis, suicide, mental health, counseling, or hospitals.

  • Check the blue pages of your phone book for your county's mental health department. This will not be a crisis number, but you can call and ask them if they know of one.

In Australia:

You may contact Lifeline by telephone 24 hours a day (numbers are at the websites). Young people, under 18, may also contact the Kids Help Line.

In Canada:

Check the National Hopeline Network's Listings.

In the United Kingdom and Ireland:

You may contact The Samaritans by telephone (24 hours a day) or you may visit one of 200 Samaritans centers.
