Get Your Rest! It's Daylight Saving Time.

Saturday March 8, 2008
Is daylight saving time hazardous to your health? Scientists aren't sure, says Mark Stibich, PhD, of About.com Longevity. While some studies show no risk at all, a recent study shows an increase in male suicides in the weeks following daylight saving time, according to Stibich.

Our bodies do continue to follow the sun's cycle for a while after the clocks change, Stibich says. Researchers haven't determined what that means for our physical and mental health.

What does that mean for you? Sleep problems can aggravate psychiatric disorders like panic disorder. So, when it's daylight saving time or anytime, it's important to practice good sleep hygiene. If you're having trouble with your sleep, it's time to talk to your health care providers. Panic disorder treatment just won't work as well if your sleep isn't what it should be.
